Our 14th 6 speed manual conversion here at Three Pedals is a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS. Gary M. ordered the car brand new and in 2016 he decided to make the Impala the car of his dreams. He started by replacing the original engine with a brand new 500 horsepower 383 cubic inch LT1 from Golen Engines. After performing the recommended break in procedure over the first 500 miles, Gary then drove his Impala about 400 miles from his home in Ohio to our shop in Sterling, Virginia. We like the way he rolls!
Once in our hands, we installed our Bigfastcar Magnum 6 speed manual conversion package, Metco upper and lower rear control arms to minimize rear axle hop, added Dynamat to his entire floor to make the interior a bit quieter, fixed his broken window rollers, and patched a couple of rust spots in the floor.
Our 6 speed manual conversion package includes our conversion kit, designed and manufactured right here in the USA, by us. The key components in the kit are our integrated clutch and brake pedal assembly and transmission crossmember. We have detailed these parts here.
Gary’s Impala is now emphatically a true “muscle car” – we dig his license plate!
Our Bigfastcar Magnum package includes a brand new Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission. Rated to handle 700 lb/ft of torque this thing will handle massive power. With triple synchronizers on 1st and 2nd gear, and double synchronizers on every other gear, it shifts so smoothly. The T56 Magnum is the aftermarket version of the Tremec TR6060, which is the 6 speed manual transmission found in brand new Dodge Challengers, Chevrolet Camaros, Cadillac CTS-V, and the Dodge Viper. Variants of this same transmission were also used in C5 and C6 Chevrolet Corvettes, among many other models.
Gary wanted a 60’s look with the center console and requested that we use a longer, curved shift lever and a rubber boot in place of our leather boot. We love custom stuff and are almost done with his piece, in the meantime we have some in-progress pictures below.
