For all you G-Body fans out there – our all new integrated clutch and brake pedal assembly will go on sale the week of December 11th, 2017. What the heck took so long you ask? Well, here’s the story.
To get to the punchline: Instead of crossing the finish line with a welded steel bracket, like our current B-Body pedal, we thought everyone would prefer it in billet aluminum, carved on a CNC mill. We know you’ll appreciate the increased precision. And of course form must follow function for critical parts like these, but don’t worry we’ve got form covered too. So, hang tight, we’re almost there and we know you’ll love the pedals.
Request a quote – If you’d like to get a personalized quote on all the parts you need to install a manual transmission in your G-Body please fill out our questionnaire below. And of course we offer installation at our shop.
“The pedals and shifter feel and look as though they could have been a factory installation: That crisp, six-speed stick really wakes up the car.”
We design and manufacture our parts here in the USA. We engage independent professional engineers to evaluate our designs using finite element analysis and other techniques to ensure durability and high performance. We hit the track and pound on our prototypes because (a) it’s really fun and (b) real world testing is critical to nail drivability, installation, and serviceability details.
Why do we keep talking about our wagon? Turns out that the brake pedal in the wagon – a 1977 – 1990 B-Body – is almost identical to the G-Body brake pedal. Throughout 2017 our wagon has been our G-Body pedal prototype test car and boy did we pound on it. With a 500 HP LS3 we rebuilt in-house, a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual, double adjustable coil overs, and C6 Corvette disc brakes all around, we ran it hard in the autocross events at LS Fest West, LS Fest East, Car Craft Summer Nationals, and the Impala SS Clubs of America national show. And yes, that is air under the inside front tire as we wrestle our way to 2nd place in the top dog Race class at the ISSCA show.
“For just about the full duration of the Summer Nationals … they ran the Safari hard…hard enough to cause the clutch to have issues. So they left the show and went to Holley to do some repair work. The next time I saw the Safari, it was pulling into the lanes for some test passes on the dragstrip. Build, break and rebuild as necessary, all in a station wagon.”
In addition to the CC/Malibu, for testing duty we have a 1987 Monte Carlo SS with a built small block 383 ci engine and our very own project 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Now, back to the G-Body pedals.
Details on our Pedals
Our pedals fit all models within the GM G-Body platform, so let’s take a moment to clarify what that means. GM made it a bit confusing – from 1978 – 1981 these cars were designated as “A-Bodies” and from 1982 – 1988 they were designated as “G-Bodies”. We just call ’em G-Bodies for short, but we’re referring to the whole range, 1978 – 1988 and we’ve listed all the individual models below.
We will be offering our pedal assembly on a stand-alone basis, as well as part of a comprehensive conversion kit including transmission, transmission crossmember, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, driveshaft, and rear gears. Pricing is not set yet but we expect it to be priced slightly lower than our Impala SS conversion kit options. As with all of our kits, we are happy to customize a package just for you so that you get exactly what you want, and nothing that you don’t want. Request a quote to squeeze all the info out of us that you can.
Our pedal assembly will be a direct replacement for your stock brake pedal. Other than locating the brake pedal in the perfect lateral position for heel-and-toe downshifting, no changes are made to your braking system geometry. We will be offering options for both power and manual brakes. The clutch side is where it gets exciting of course – pedal spacing and feel are on par with modern cars like the 6th generation Camaro. With our universal master cylinder mounting we can work with any hydraulic clutch system and we will offer packages for popular transmissions including all versions of the Tremec T56 6 speed manual transmission, as well as 5 speeds including the McLeod Muscle Car 5 and the Tremec TKO500, TKO600 and T5. Our pedals also offer modern conveniences like cruise control cancel and a neutral safety switch.
Our pedals will work with just about any engine, including LS/LT engines, carbureted or fuel injected, small block or big block. And you know we love station wagons, so they’re included in the fun as well.
